African Triple in women's marathon

Africa distinguished itself in the women's marathon by taking the three places on the podium. Amane Beriso Shankule led an Ethiopian double with a time of 2:24:23 at the finish line at ‘place des Héros’ ahead of her compatriot and defending champion Gotytom Gebreslase (2:24:34).

An Ethiopian medal race was for a long time watched, until the weather conditions badly impacted on last year's London Marathon winner Yalemzerf Yehualaw.

She was passed by Morocco's Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi, who took bronze in 2:25:17, and Israel's 2022 World bronze medalist Lonah Chemutai Salpeter, who ranked fourth in 2:25:38.

Tebogo’s  “200 coups”

Silver medalist in the 100m, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo won Bronze in the 200m. He made a spectacular entry into the court of the best African sprinters and distinguished himself as the worthy heir of Namibia’s Frankie Fredericks.

America’s Noah Lyles won his third consecutive 200m world title (19.52) which, added to his 100m crown a few days earlier, cemented his status as the current undisputed king of the sprint. His compatriot Erriyon Knighton took advantage of a powerful finish to take second place in 19.75, at the expense of Batswana Letsile Tebogo credited with 19.81.

With a quick start, a powerful resuming, a brilliant turn and a quite scintillating straight line, Jamaica's Shericka Jackson entered deeper into the history books at the Budapest 23 World Championships in Athletics on Friday night (25), winning her second consecutive world title in the 200m in 21''41.

This race cemented her place as the world's second all-time 200m runner, behind Florence Griffith-Joyner's world record of 21.34. America’s Gabby Thomas was second in 21.81, while 100m champion Sha'Carri Richardson was third with a personal best 21.92.

The Ivorian Marie-José Ta Lou finished in 8th place in 22''64., which is a big disappointment after her 4th place in the 100m final. But she can be satisfied with the new African record that Cote d'Ivoire set in the 4X100 m in 41''90 and which opens the doors to the final tonight and a possibility of getting on the Podium.

In the other events, the Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas released a last hellish jump to win a fourth title in the Triple jump in 15m08, just like the Japanese Kitaguchi crowned in the women's javelin (66m73).

Africa currently has 6 Gold, 6 Silver, 5 Bronze.
