African athletics is in mourning, with the death of Ivorian Maurice Seri Gnoleba, who has held senior positions in the African Athletics Confederation (CAA) in the past. He retired to Abidjan on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at the age of 84.
A great sportsman, Séri Gnoléba was the first president of the Ivorian Athletics Federation of which he is the honorary president until his death. It is for this reason that he has long walked with President Lamine Diack within the CAA for nearly three decades.
Member of several governments of Félix Houphouët-Boigny before becoming President of the Economic and Social Council, the deceased was a leading politician of the Democratic Party of Côte d'Ivoire (PDCI), then a single party.
