Kenyans Eliud Kipchoge (Men) and Beatrice Chepkoech (Ladies) are the two African winners of the IAAF 2018 Athlete of the Year Award.
Eliud Kipchoge, the fastest man on the marathon (2: 01: 39), is competing with another world record holder, Kevin Mayer (Decathlon), Sweden's Armand Duplantis (champion European Pole vault with a jump of 6.05m), the Qatari Abderrahman Samba (2nd performance in history over 400m hurdles) and American sprinter Christian Coleman.
For the women, the prize will be played between the Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech, new world record holder in the 3000m steeplechase, the British Dina Asher-Smith (sprint), Colombian Caterine Ibarguen (triple jump and length), Shaunae Miller-Uibo from Bahamas (sprint) and the Belgian Nafissatou Thiam (heptathlon). Male and female athletes from around the world will be announced live at the IAAF Gala on December 4th in Monaco.
The Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim (Jump High) and the Belgian Nafissatou Thiam (Heptathlon) were crowned in 2017.
