2026 AFRICA SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS Accra, Ghana, host of the competition from May 12 to 17, 2026

Ghana will host the 24th edition of the Africa Senior Athletics Championships from May 12 to 17, 2026, in Accra, as confirmed by Ghana Athletics Association in a letter to the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), following approval from the Minister of Sports and Recreation.

 

According to the letter, Accra will also host the CAA Council meeting, the opening of which the Minister of Sports, Kofi Adams, will attend in accordance with Ghanaian protocol.

The schedule of activities plans the arrival of CAA administrators and technical staff on May 8, Council members on May 9, followed by the Council meeting and the arrival of participating teams on May 10. The technical meeting is scheduled for May 11, before the competitions take place from May 12 to 17, with the delegations departing on May 18.

These dates were chosen due, in particular, to the university holidays at the University of Ghana, scheduled from April 27 to May 29, as well as the organization, at the same institution, of the first edition of the International Student Championship from May 18 to 24, 2026.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)between Ghana and the CAA is expected no later than January 10, 2026, subject to the availability of the relevant minister.

Furthermore, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for Accra 2026 is expected to be established on Thursday, December 18, 2026, according to the Ghana Athletics Association.

The latest edition of the African Senior Championships was held in Douala, Cameroon, in 2024.
